AMSOIL Warranty for Lubricants

No-nonsense AMSOIL Lubricant Warranty:

In a nutshell: If a component failure is determined to be directly linked to the use of AMSOIL lubricants; AMSOIL Inc. will repair or replace damaged equipment.

Please see below for complete warranty terms and conditions.

As an AMSOIL dealer or customer, it is important that you understand the facts of what OEM's can and cannot deny warranty for, and how the use of AMSOIL products can give you peace of mind.

Click for AMSOIL Warranty Secure page in corporate websiteMisinformation surrounds how lubricant selection and extended drain intervals affect OEM warranties.

It is against Federal law for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to deny warranty coverage based solely on the brand of lubricant used. The Warranty Secure symbol informs consumers of this fact. By law, using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants in place of OEM-branded lubricants, or practicing extended drain intervals when using AMSOIL lubricants, does not void new vehicle or equipment manufacturer warranties. Click on Warranty Secure logo for more details.

According to the Federal Trade Commission:
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part.... The manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage. (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt192.shtm)

Additionally AMSOIL Inc's Product Warranty, Technical Services & Legal Department functions towards your protection & to help resolve warranty related issues with OEM dealerships if such a situation should ever arise.

Lifters Chev 5.3l 2013

I used Amsoil in my Chev 5.3l since I purchased it with only about 20K Kms on it. Had pretty hard Knocks (sometimes) on startups around 50K. When it got to around 80K sounded like Sewing machine on most Startups.
GM wouldn't warranty it even though I complained several times while on Warranty.
Replaced all the Lifters at 100K. $5500 bill.
Warranty Timed out!

Is this an oil problem or faulty components or faulty Engineering?

Please contact techservicemail [at] amsoil.com

Usually, tech dept will require a sample of the used oil to determine if the problem is lubricant related.

I doubt this to be a lubricant issue due to the fact that you would have had few oil changes done during that time but the problem continued to get worse. Replied by Tech Admin

Canadian warranty question

I was just told by my dealer that if I used Amsoil 2 stroke synthetic lubricant in my new 2017 Summit X 850 etec snowmobile it would void my warranty. I understand this is illegal in the United States but can they get away with it in Canada?

Re: Canadian warranty question

Canadian laws regarding warranty are very general in their descriptions of protections and nothing really commits to warranty coverage protection for the consumers like the laws in the United States do, primarily the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Your concern is not the first time this has come to light and even though we do not have a set response for Canadian customers like we can provide to US customers with the backing of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, I can relate that standard warranty, whether in the US or Canada is "backed by specifications" that an oil needs to meet and if a product meets those specifications then it is satisfactorily meeting the warranty requirements of the application.

However, refer to Automotive Industries Association of Canada (www.aiacanada.com) who state the following to Canadian consumers:

"Making your own choice of Automotive Service Professional for regular service and maintenance does not mean compromising your vehicle warranty"

Visit this page to download the full PDF document.

But it's hard when you have a dealership telling someone that if they don't follow their suggestion that they will have a voided warranty when there are not specific laws in Canada that protects the consumer like the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

If the AMSOIL product meets the 2017 Summit X 850 etec snowmobile oil requirements as specified in the owners manual, then you have a product that will satisfy OEM warranty requirements and it should not cause any ill effects that would void warranty.

Also read over your warranty. Warranty language will often state words like "may" or "could" void warranty if you don't use recommended fluids. These words indicate that the insurer has the right to void warranty, but it is not an "automatic void".

Often they word warranties like this for the purpose of protecting themselves if an aftermarket product is indeed the "cause of the failure", but they would still need to give "due diligent validation" to such a claim and if found to be true, then that aftermarket manufacturer would cover warranty.

If such wording is used, then the "warranty is not automatically voided" by using aftermarket products. Just make sure that the aftermarket products meet the specification requirements as outlined in the owners manual provided by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

Thank you

Thank you amsoil for standing behind your products and also educating customers to overcome oem / dealership service strategies. I used to wonder why should my warranty be void for issues unrelated to lubricants? Now I know the warranty cannot be denied unless it is proved to be lubricant related and the damage is due to the lubricant's failure to protect.
